Continuing Professional Development (CPD) available for CPHT Graduates
All professional associations have Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements and the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH) has chosen to follow the CNHC’s guidance on this. The definition of a CPD and also an indication of the type and quantity of CPD required can be found by following this link: CNHC CPD

AHD required
These denote CPDs that students are required to attend as part of the Advanced Hypnotherapy Diploma (AHD) Course.

Workshop CPDs
CPDs which last for half a day (AM or PM) are classified as Workshops.

Online CPDs
Many CPDs below are now available online via Zoom video conferencing so you can participate in the comfort of your own home. All you need to participate is a computer/tablet with webcam, microphone and an internet connection. Details and the Zoom link will be sent to you using the email address that accompanies your Paypal payment.

The aim of this CPD is to give you a greater understanding of fertility and infertility and the impact fertility issues can have on peoples lives.  Plus this CPD will help give you the confidence to deal with what is often a very emotional subject.

We will cover the physical and psychological causes/factors of infertility and information on modern fertility treatments.

We will explore the role of hypnotherapy in supporting fertility and reducing the negative effects of infertility.

We will discuss the importance of setting SMART goals and how to manage expectations/disappointment/loss.

We will also cover some relaxation techniques you can teach your clients to help them let go of stress and anxiety that is often experienced on their fertility journey.

This CPD is online via zoom and will include a lunch break and couple of comfort breaks.

The course is run by Jennifer Dunseath who qualified at CPHT Belfast in 2017 and runs a busy clinic in Belfast as well as helping to lecture at the school.  She has received very positive feedback to the previous CPDs she has run.

Jennifer is a qualified Hypnobirthing Practitioner having trained with the Kathrine Graves school of Hypnobirthing.

This CPD is also a module on the AHD.

CBT CPD – A two-part CPD – Claire Brigg

The aim of this CPD is to provide an understanding of the working knowledge of the history and development of CBT and its interaction with other therapeutic models such as SFBT and Hypnotherapy; to provide an understanding of professional and ethical issues; and an understanding and application of the assessment and formulation process within CBT.This will include an in-depth discussion and practical homework exercises in between the two sessions on:

About Claire Brigg

Claire trained with David Newton in 2002 and has been in private practice at the Clifton Practice ever since! She has written and taught for the CPHT CPD programme for many years and brings her wealth of clinical knowledge and experience together with an academic focus.

Claire has an honours degree and a Masters in Psychology, is a qualified teacher and holds a post as a lecturer for a Counselling degree programme where she teaches developmental Psychology and contemporary Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to counselling students in training and post qualification.

Claire is also studying for a Doctorate in Education at the University of Bristol focusing on the subject of resilience in higher education.

About Nicola Griffiths

Nicola has been a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist since 2007 and 16 months ago moved her entire practice to online. Therefore she has some solid experience of working in this area.

She became a Supervisor in 2012 and a CPHT Lecturer in 2015.  Prior to becoming a full-time hypnotherapist, Nicola worked in marketing and also ran an advertising agency.

Calm Pregnancy and Childbirth Full Day CPD – Online – Jennifer Dunseath

The main focus of this CPD is to understand the birthing process and the impact modern birth culture has had on our perspective of childbirth and how we can regain a more natural perspective.We will look at the basic anatomy and physiology of the body during pregnancy and labour and the impact that fear has on pain. Helping clients reduce their anxiety and fear is what we do everyday, this CPD will give you the confidence to work with pregnant women and make a real positive impact on their pregnancy journey.We will discuss how hypnotherapy can support a calm pregnancy and birthing process and even the subsequent bonding with the baby.We will look at techniques that we can use in the therapy room and that we can teach the client to use at home during pregnancy and throughout the whole birthing process.This CPD is online via zoom and will include a lunch break and couple of comfort breaks.

Working With Children CPD – Online – Sian Noon

The aim of this CPD is to inspire participants to feel confident in working with children and teenagers and will involve informative discussion, engaging activities and Sian will share a range of specific and creative ideas and resources.

Sian is owner of The Youth Fairy, specialising in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy for children and teenagers. In addition to running her busy practice in Sussex, she has over a decade’s experience of working with young people in an educational setting, as a qualified teacher and Head of Year, responsible for the social and emotional wellbeing of students.

Sian also runs CPHT Brighton Hypnotherapy Training with her husband Brian and is a qualified NLP Master Practitioner and Coach.

Hypnosis for Improved Sporting Performance CPD – Online – Trevor Eddolls

Aim : To understand how to help your clients improve their Sports Performance through the use of Hypnosis.

We explore how the brain works and different techniques of visualisation and relaxation with the use of practical exercises to endorse the lessons.

Details Sports hypnosis can help athletes to improve their performance to get to the absolute top of their chosen sport.

It can be used to:

  • Reinforce established sporting goals
  • Increase motivation
  • Improve bodily awareness
  • Handle nervousness
  • Manage stress
  • Be able to relax
  • Ignore distractions
  • Control pain.

The session will look at how the brain works and common problems that athletes face – choking, dartitis, yips, target panic, etc – and talk about paralysis by analysis, and how it can be avoided, and dealing with negativity.

We’ll look at different types of visualization and how they can be used to improve performance both in and out of trance. We’ll look at relaxation both away from events and at events.

We’ll look at the kind of language to use. And we’ll look at practice in and out of trance. We’ll look at getting ‘in the zone’. We’ll talk about Mihály Csíkszentmihályi’s idea of flow – the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity.

And we’ll look at Owen Schaffer’s seven flow conditions. We will also look at hypnotherapy and NLP techniques to bring all this together to help produce the best athlete possible.

About the Lecturer : 

Trevor Eddolls  is a Hypnotherapy Master Practitioner, and also a qualified solution-focused supervisor and an NLP Master Practitioner. He is a qualified Life Coach. He also has diplomas in Positive Psychology, Nutrition, and Play Therapy.

Trevor is Head of IT and Social Media on the Executive of the Association for Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH). He is a popular speaker and blogger and has written six books and numerous articles that have been published in a number of different hypnotherapy journals.

Not only has Trevor worked with clients in the areas of stress and anxiety, depression, phobias, becoming non-smokers, weight management and performance, he’s also worked with Olympic-standard athletes.

Working with Teenagers and Young People (Age 13-25) – Online CPD

Julie May

This CPD will equip you with the knowledge and research necessary to feel confident working with young people. The 13-25-year age group are probably the most at risk of severe anxiety, depression, self-harming, suicide, cyber-bullying and feeling overwhelmed. We will explore and learn about this area in mental health that is in need of more trained professionals.

In this CPD, we will cover:

  • Mental illness in young people
  • How the brain works in young people and how this differs to the workings of the adult brain
  • Hormones and Neurotransmitters – which ones are helpful and how to better access and use them
  • Legal requirements when working with young people including safeguarding
  • Working with young people online/by telephone whilst being GDPR compliant
  • The therapeutic alliance when working with teenagers and adolescents
  • Parents – how and when to involve them
  • Is it business as usual? We look at where and how things differ
  • How the IC differs when we’re working with young people, with a specific IC Information Gathering sheet
  • Peers, teachers and parents: helping young people understand how to communicate better and more easily
  • Alternatives to use for our MQ and Specific SF Questions that work well

Julie studied the Psychology of Education for 3 years at the University of Manchester and has worked in Secondary Schools, Sixth Form Colleges and Student Support Offices with students. As well as working as a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist, Julie has been a Senior Lecturer for CPHT and is a Supervisor with both the AfSFH and the NCH.

An Introduction to Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) – online

This CPD is designed to give you an insight in to NLP and an overview of how an NLP Hypnotherapist may practice. It will include some ideas which may complement your practice as a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist.

This CPD was run earlier this year and we are hosting it again due to popular demand. It is also a module on the Advanced hypnotherapy Diploma (AHD).

What you will learn:

  • A Brief history of NLP and its founders.
  • The NLP Communication Model – how people gather, process, and encode information.
  • Advance calibration skills – Eye Accessing Cues, Representational systems, sub-modalities.
  • An Introduction to Language patterns – Meta model & Milton Model.
  • Anchors – how to set them, and collapse existing negative anchors.
  • An introduction to timelines and how to use them in your sessions.
  • The NLP version of the rewind technique.
  • Other techniques that you can start using immediately to help your clients get results.

The course will help strengthen your ability to build rapport quickly, and calibrate how a person is creating their problem states. You will also have the skills and knowledge to help them change these programs and make better choices going forward. This will enable to tackle your client’s specific issues directly.

About James Banfield

James integrates SFH and NLP in his company The Liberated Mind. He has trained with several well-known practitioners including James Tripp, Paul Makenna, and one of the founders of NLP Richard Bandler.

He is very passionate about neuroscience and helping his clients to create permanent positive changes in their lives. In this course he will share his knowledge and practical tips, which will give you the confidence to take your sessions to the next level.
